La Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin inaugure un nouvel espace au 1er étage du 76 rue de Turenne, totalisant une surface de 1500 m2 et 11 salles d’exposition. A cette occasion, une exposition de groupe est organisée du 11 septembre au 30 octobre 2010, dans tous les espaces de la Galerie où figureront : John Armleder, Tauba Auerbach, Hernan Bas, Matthew Day Jackson, Bernard Frize, Mark Grotjahn, Andrew Guenther, Sergej Jensen, Bharti Kher, Adam McEwen, Olivier Mosset, Takashi Murakami, R.H. Quaytman, Claude Rutault, Lee Ufan, Piotr Uklanski, Martin Wöhrl.

Les œuvres, réalisées en majorité pour l’exposition, ont pour point commun de dévoiler de multiples facettes (non exhaustives) de la peinture abstraite aujourd’hui dans un dialogue étonnant. Certains artistes ont choisi une œuvre emblématique dans leurs parcours : Tauba Auerbach, une Fold Painting en trompe-l’œil inversé, Matthew Day Jackson, une construction en bois, Mark Grotjahn, un dessin de grand format, Bharti Kher, un panneau de bindis multicolores, Takashi Murakami, deux peintures abstraites de 1991, Piotr Uklanski, une encre sur toile, enfin Bernard Frize et Lee Ufan proposent chacun une peinture récente.

D’autres s’emparent d’une salle de la galerie : John Armleder recouvre entièrement les murs de fibre d’étoupe d’où jaillissent des toiles. Adam McEwen reproduit en graphite sur panneau d’aluminium des planches de bois ou de métal mais également des dessins de Rorschach en chewing-gum sur toile. Olivier Mosset révèle une nouvelle série de Shape Paintings géométriques au format identique. R.H. Quaytman évoque les lieux qui ont marqué son histoire personnelle mais aussi l’histoire de l’art dans des compositions à la limite de l’abstraction. Claude Rutault développe un environnement selon le principe des « Méthodes/Définitions ». Martin Wöhrl , artiste allemand, livre des assemblages en bois circulaires ou carrés, jouant avec les matériaux et conventions du design et de l’architecture.

Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin is opening a new space on the first floor of 76 rue de Turenne, with a total surface area of 1500 square metres and 11 exhibition rooms. A group exhibition is organised for this occasion from September 11 to October 30, 2010, throughout every room of the Gallery, featuring : John Armleder, Tauba Auerbach, Hernan Bas, Matthew Day Jackson, Bernard Frize, Mark Grotjahn, Andrew Guenther, Sergej Jensen, Bharti Kher, Adam McEwen, Olivier Mosset, Takashi Murakami, R.H. Quaytman, Claude Rutault, Lee Ufan, Piotr Uklanski, Martin Wöhrl.

The artworks, that have been produced primarily for the exhibition, whose ambition is to unveil the multiple facets (not an exhaustive representation) of abstract painting today through a provocative dialogue. Some of the artists have chosen emblematic works from their artistic repertoire: Tauba Auerbach, a Fold Painting in reversed trompe-l’œil, Matthew Day Jackson, a wooden construction, Mark Grotjahn, a large format drawing, Bharti Kher, a panel with multicoloured bindis, Takashi Murakami, two abstract paintings from 1991, Piotr Uklanski, an ink on canvas, while Bernard Frize, Matthew Day Jackson and Lee Ufan are all exhibiting recent paintings.

Others have taken over a room in the Gallery: John Armleder has covered the walls entirely with linen fabric where paintings appear to spring from the walls. Adam McEwen has reproduced wooden and metal planks on aluminium panels but also Rorschach drawings in chewing gum on canvas. Olivier Mosset is revealing a new series of geometric Shape Paintings of identical format. R.H. Quaytman evokes the places that have marked his own personal history, as well as art history, with compositions that are at the limit of the abstract. Claude Rutault has developed an environment based on the principle of « Méthodes/Définitions ». Martin Wöhrl, a German artist, has produced circular and square wooden assemblages that play with materials and conventions of design and architecture.
